So recently, I was out with someone on the streets, when someone walked by us.
It was a street, so it wasn’t a strange occurrence for people to go by but, it was worth mentioning because this person in particular had a hair fully dyed blond.
From the look my companion was sporting, I could tell he wasn’t impressed.
So it got me thinking about hair dyes and its significance in today’s world.
To begin with, WHAT IS HAIR DYE?
Hair dye can be defined as a coloured substances used to change the colour and appearance on an individuals hair.
Types of hair dye
- The temporary ones
can be washed out in one go, great for short time projects.
- The semi and demi permanent ones
Which can be taken out after 4 weeks or more of shampooing.
- The permanent ones
which last until your hair roots grow out or you recolour your hair.
There are so many reasons why people use hair dye. Example:
Expression
In a world where things can be perceived as dull and monotonous, changing your hair color brings about a new flavour to life.
It instantly changes your look and gives you a new colourful way to look at life.
Some people change their hair colours to improve the way the perceive themselves, look more beautiful, appear adventurous etc.
Youthfulness
Some do so, to keep youthful, most of the older generation admit to dying their hair to keep a youthful look as the emergence of gray hair.
What ever your reason, there are things to watch out before applying that rich colour to your mane.
Some of them include :
The ingredients
You might be thinking of just adding colour to your hair and being done with it.
But you’ve got to be careful, though most hair dye products have be deemed “safe”, others can contact chemicals which on contact with your body- be it your scalp or skin– can cause irritation, burning or peeling, some could cause hair loss.
Texture of your hair
Fuller hair takes in more product to achieve what ever colour you’re going for.
So before you put in the dye, consider the head of hair you were born with.
Coarse hair requires little product, the condition of your hair either processed or natural has a say in how it will react to the product being added to it.
Mode of application
It’s best to have your dye job done by a professional if you want the best results.
Doing it at home will leave you unsatisfied as the professional knows what best suits your face i.e shade, style of the dye job.
The effects to the job
Depending on your purpose for the dye job, you have to consider if this is a permanent or temporary decision in order to know how best to maintain and care for your hair, So you don’t end up looking washed up.
I would love to hear from you in the comments.
Peace and love.
