3 Major Sleep Posture and Health Effects
Let’s face it, we all enjoy sleeping, so why not do it right and avoid complications. The best sleeping position is not a one-size fits all solution.
People sleep in different position that they find comfortable but sleeping goes beyond comfort, it also has health implications if done wrongly.
So to ensure we sleep better and wake up healthy, here are some sleeping postures and health implications attached to them:
BACK SLEEPING:
Often recommended as the best position for preventing aches and pains in the morning, sleeping on our back is best for resting our spine and our entire skeletal system because our legs, arms and joints are not under pressure from our entire body and they can relax in their natural position.
SIDE SLEEPING
:It is great for cuddling and pillow-talks, plus researchers suggest that sleeping on your left side is preferable to your right side, thanks to the unique arrangement of our internal organs.
Some benefits of side sleeping includes
- proper digestion
- better brain health,
- better blood flow,
- reduces heartburn and constipation.
With all these benefits may also come some demerits. Which includes;
- It causes hip pains
- shoulder pains
- waist and neck pains
- wrinkles and also saggy breast for females.
STOMACH SLEEPING :
This is the rarest position used by only 17% of people making it the most unused sleeping position.
Benefits of this position includes
-reduced snoring
-helps in cases of sleep apnea.
some of its disadvantages include
- numbness
- stiffness
- spinal strain and
- waking up feeling anxious.
The best sleeping position still remains the side sleeping position because of its numerous health benefits.
