life as a student – survival tips
So hey guys,
You liked the Lagos survival guide?. if you missed the post, link below, go check it out.
You’re going to love this one.
I remember the first time I was sent off to university, the moment my feet landed on tertiary academic ground, I was overwhelmed.
New sights, new sounds, new people, new situations.
New everything, I was going to rock this world!!
One semester later, my life was in shambles.
True talk.
So here I am with another post about tips about how to survive tertiary institutions.
Disclaimer:
we’re all different, equipped with different skill set, and everything.. what worked for me might not work for you.
1: Belief system.
Remember when we talked about belief system in our irresistible post. Well, the school environment is the place to hold your belief system extra tight.
I mean it o,
The school environment is a breeding ground for many, many personalities, backgrounds and it will be hard to not be influenced by all that.. so if it’s amadioha, God, Allah, self discipline, Jollof rice you believe in.
Hold it really tight.
2: Hold your money tight.
Textbooks, feeding, contributions, hair, feeling among money etc.. those bills will always come in, so it takes a keen, goal oriented mind to avoid bankruptcy, so I’d advise to restrain yourself from spending money because there will come a time ( trust me I know this) when you will be in great need of the money you want to spend on that new bag you saw in that boutique or the flex money you want to take your guys out with. I’m not saying you shouldn’t spend.
I’m saying spend wisely.

3: Be On the alert.
This is pretty self explanatory, there are predators in school, despite the fun experiences that are painted to the uninitiated .. school is still tough, so you need to be careful.
Avoid dark places, night journeys, suspicious characters, vices, shady lecturers and such and you’ll be safe.
4: watch others.
You’ll learn a lot by keeping your course mates in your sight, you’d be amazed about how much stress, you’ll avoid when you go to your elders for advice. Your workload will greatly reduced and you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the sights.
5: Rest.
In school, problem no dey finish.
If this lecturer doesn’t give surprise test, your generator will decide to stop working, or one kind exam fever will hold you or the love of your life will break your heart.
My point?, Take time off to breathe.
Deep, deep breaths. To realign yourself with your purpose in this life. Even though my roommates don’t like it..they’re resigned to my extra long walks that I take to just be. It keeps me sane.
There you have it.
PS: you will notice that I didn’t say attend lectures and academic sturvs.
That’s up to you.. life is all about choices.
So let’s chat in the comments. Tell me what you think.
Peace and love.
