Its important to listen even more than you speak.
Some things to know about listening;
#1- Helps During Arguments
Its essential to listen to the next person before trying to prove your point. Its okay to say how you feel but its important listen, in relationships when everyone is talking you find that no point is being made and the tendency for the argument leading to a fight is extremely high.
What to do?
-Calmly approach the situation
-Turn the argument into a conversion
-Listen to the next person.
-speak exactly how you feel
-Do not raise your voice
-Agree to disagree.
I know this might be hard for most of us that really just want to express exactly how we feel – I mean you just want to let your partner know how it feels, that’s okay but your manner of approach matters. Many friendships, relationships and the likes are no more cause of people talked more when they were suppose to listen!
#2- helps you see other sides of people
When you leave a person to talk and all you do is listen, you’ll find that the person shows more of themselves in everything they say.
One time I was having a conversation with a friend and we were about to argue, I paused and allowed her do the talking while I listened , I’m sure she must’ve have thought I didn’t have anything to say but I did , a lot for that matter I had to listen and in few minutes she said everything she wasn’t suppose to say and I got see other sides of this person.
#3- you learn more
The more you listen, the more you learn its a fact!
You don’t have to be in an argument to listen and learn, when in seminar or a conference you’ll agree with me that the more you listen and pay close attention the more you gain. Even when talking with a friend, your partner or a family member say your mind but listen more.
#4-you’ll understand you can’t always be right
We all have our opinions and that’s okay, but people just want to be right and they keep talking and end up saying nothing at all.
What to do?
Accept the fact that there’ll be times you’ll be wrong and the next person would say the right thing.
#5- healthy conversations
A conversation with no argument is possible when one listens more than they speak, you’ll find that every one gets their chance to speak and then say what they want to without any reason to argue.
This needs to be normalized – try to listen more than you normally do and not only learn but enjoy peace plus less noise.
